Abuja – Miss Debbie Douglas, 19-year-old Political Science student of Nasarawa State University, has won the 2015 edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Abuja (MBGA) beauty pageant.
The Cross River State born beauty queen beat 31 other contestants on Sunday to emerge the new FCT Queen.
This year’s edition of the MBGA pageant, which started in 2001 and organised by Dolce Entertainment Ltd, marked the 15th anniversary of the annual event.
NAN report that the contest is organised annually to discover and develop beauty queens in the FCT.
Mr Ejiro Okpihwo, Chief Executive, Dolce Entertainment, said that the MBGA pageant serve as platform to empower young Nigerian ladies from different background.
He added that it also helped to create employment opportunities for many people in the entertainment industry.
Okpihwo said that the MBGA was now a popular brand in pageantry business in Nigeria and beyond, adding that it had created several opportunities for previous contestants and winners.
“In the past 10 years, we have given out over 10 cars to winners consistently and empowered them to carry out pet projects that have impacted the community positively”, he said.
Douglas, the new beauty Queen, was presented with a brand new Pontiac car and undisclosed cash award.
She spoke amidst tears of joy on what she intended to do during her reign as the FCT beauty queen in the next 12 months.
“It was really tough contesting for one crown with 31 persons. I am thrilled that I emerged the winner.
“I thank God for his grace and the organiser for giving me the opportunity to participate in this contest.
“I will use my office to preach peace and tolerance among Nigerians and will also be involved in leadership mentoring for teenagers, as leaders of tomorrow.
“I will work as an ambassador of peace and positive change agent in the life of young people,” she said.
Douglas noted that combining the responsibilities of her new office with the demands of studies as a 300 level student in the university would be tasking.
She however expressed optimism that with her passion and hard work, she would succeed in the task ahead.
The first to the fifth runners up of the pageant, were named MBGA’s ambassadors and models for 2015.
Some upcoming and established Nigerian music artistes and comedians performed at the event which was held at the congress hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
