No fewer than 72 graduating Radiographer were inducted by the Radiographer Registration Board Nigeria (RRBN) as the University of Calabar holds her 11th International Induction and Oath taking ceremony recently.
The event which saw 72 graduates drawn from various Universities including University of Calabar, Nsukka and Ghana inducted was held at University of Calabar International Conference Centre.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Registrar and Chief Executive of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, (RRBN) Chidiebere T. Chidiebere advised the graduands to imbibe the basic tenets and ethics of the profession by being punctual and regular in attendance to duties and mutual respect for senior colleagues.
On his part, the Provost, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Prof. Maurice Asuquo proposed a Faculty of Radiography for the University of Calabar, even as he advised graduands not to focus on today’s achievement as the best but to seek to reach the peak of their noble profession by not losing grip of the vital lessons gathered from their lectures.
In his valedictory speech, the overall best graduating Radiography student, Mr. Esop Esop Jacob expressed profound gratitude to their parents for the tremendous sacrifices made while, further thanking the Lecturers and the University Management for grooming them to be better and stronger.
Highpoints of the ceremony was the presentation of the 11th Radiographer induction and Oath taking Lecture by Dr. Nneoyi Onen Egbe, on the topic “Breaking the Frontiers of 21st Century Radiography Practice” .

Team Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) shone like stars as they emerged the winners of the 2017 Enactus Nigeria National Competition held at the Civic Centre, Lagos state.
ABU Enactus was adjudged the champions at the 3-day event after beating three of its counterparts who made it to the finals- University of Lagos, Covenant University and Babcook.
The 2017 Nigeria champions is expected to represent Nigeria at the September London Enactus World Cup where National Champions from 36 different countries will meet to compete on the global stage.
Covenant university came second. This year's Enactus Nigeria National Championship saw nineteen (19) different Nigerian universities competing for the ultimate trophy.

Akinwumi Ambode kick started the Ready, Set, Work program for the year at the University's Main Auditorium, Lagos State University, Ojo Campus with a Sensitization/Briefing programme.
The program is a 13 weeks entrepreneurship and employability program for final year students in Lagos State Tertiary institution and has its maiden edition in 2016.
The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun opened the program with a Welcome speech giving appreciations to the special adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh on his dedication and commitment to activities of the Lagos State University. He also went on to appreciate many other dignitaries present at the Sensitization event.
The previous year's Ready Set Work(RSW) program which lasted for 13 weeks was said to be a benchmark for the initiative with video tapings of the entire event's process been projected to everyone in the auditorium, providing hints on what to expect for the next 12 weeks of the initiative.
According to Mr. Obafela Ban-Olemoh, the beneficiaries of RSW were 150 students as at last year but provisions for this year is 500 students, and there would be three centres this year, which are LASU, UNILAG, and LASPOTECH with UNILAG having her first edition this year.
He further stated that the RSW experience is made available only in Lagos State amidst other states in the country, and the Online Academy is provided for students in their penultimate year.
The event was brought to a close at about 1:00PM after a Q & A session was entertained from students present at the program and answered by the SA to the Governor followed by a Vote of Thanks from the Registrar, Mr. Akinwunmi Oladapo Lewis of the University.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), on Thursday donated some weather forecast equipment to the University of Abuja to upgrade its weather station in Gwagwalada.
Prof. Sani Abarshi, Director-General, NiMet, disclosed this while inspecting and donating meteorological facilities to Department of Geography of the institution in Gwagwalada.
He said that NiMet would upgrade the institution into national observatory station just like others across the nation.
Inspecting meteorology station, GIS lab, Earth thermometer and rain gauge at the department, Abarshi said the need to increase the existing weather stations informed the decision to establish one in Gwagwalada.
It took time in coming, but when the step was taken, it was well received on campus. The University of Lagos (UNILAG) deproscribed the Muslim Students of Nigeria (MSSN) 18 months after it was banned. The society was proscribed because of internal wranglings.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA), Prof Ademola Adeleke, announced MSSN’s deproscription. He said were plans to restructure the group to ensure harmony among members.
CAMPUSLIFE gathered that the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Rahamon Bello, and the DSA brokered peace among the warring groups to facilitate the deproscription.
After reviewing the crisis, it was gathered that Bello moved to restore peace by meeting some key players, including the UNILAG Muslim Community (UMC). The VC, it was learnt, appealed to UMC to allow students control MSSN’s affairs.
Their demand contravened the MSSN by-laws, which prescribe selection of the association’s leaders through Shurah (consensus). The Shurah membership comprises representatives from all faculties.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Obong University in Etim Ekpo, Akwa Ibom State, Prof Udoudo Ekanemesang, has informed members of academia to renew their commitment to intensive research in order to engender innovative and homegrown solutions to problems bedevilling the country.
The VC said research, teaching and community service should be cardinal focus of every university, lamenting that many schools have failed in service to their communities. He said there was a need for tertiary institutions to create platforms to achieve these objectives in order to make significant impacts on their immediate communities and the nation.
He said: “Universities are meant to drive technological, social and environmental change in a world facing increasing challenges. Research is a systematic way of inquiry with the view to arriving at new facts that could be useful in understanding a phenomenon or altering it.
The student groups alleged the management of incessant increment in the institution’s tuition fees, proscription of the student Union Government, and the suspension of 21 students last year over their alleged roles in a protest last year.
Before long, men of the Nigerian police force arrived at the scene in large numbers. Not bothered by the presence of security men, the students continued their protest until the Registrar of the institution and the Dean of Students Affairs, Mr Oladipo Ademola came to address the crowd.
Speaking with The Nation’s CampusLife, Akinola Abiodun, the director of Travel and Exchange of the National Association of Nigerian Students said the protest was to demand for a better deal for the students, requesting that the 21 students suspended last year and the proscribed Students Union Government be reinstated as well as a downward reversal of the increased fees.
He said: “In the last two years, there has been no students Union Government in this institution. During this period, the school fees has been increased twice. From #19,500 the fee was increased to #23,400 and to #34,000.
“For fresh students, the increment was from #23,000 to #35,000 and for the part-time students it was increased from 55,000 to 84,000. Most of the students have been tortured with this, some have had to defer their studies by a session to raise money.”
Everyone likes to dress good and be admired by all, however, when an individual reduces himself or herself to states of bestial expressions all in the name of fashion, then, there is no other name for such acts other than – Madness!

Their obviously tattered dresses have been making the rounds on social media since the weekend when the students garbed themselves for their Finalist Education Dinner.
The two have been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee.
In a letter dated Tuesday May 30, 2017, the Makerere University authorities had expressed dismay over the students’ conduct.
The letter, as published by Ugandan Mirror online reads:
“If it is true that that person was you, your action, as a student of this university, would have contravened University Regulation 8 (2)(a) which states that, ‘Every student shall respect him/herself and behave in a manner that will not bring his/her name and that of the university into disrepute;’ and Regulation 8 (2) (d) which states that, ‘Every student shall dress in a neat and decent manner.”
The letter was addressed to one of the students who is said to have appeared in the pictures, Ms Rebecca Naddamba.
The Lagos State polytechnic staff unions (ASUP,SSANIP,NASU) resumed the suspended strike action after the expiration of the 21days ultimatum given to the management to respond to their requests.
The 21days ultimatum however as elapsed yesterday 4th of June 2017, they would now resume their indefinite strike today.
All normal academic and non-academic activities would not hold on all campuses.
Aminu, allegedly committed the offence on Nov. 11, 2016.
According to the prosecutor, Yakubu Audu, the accused had some deficiencies and was unable to graduate.
“Since he could not graduate, he forged statement of result of the institution and has been using it to parade himself as a graduate of NACABS, “the prosecutor said.
He added that Aminu went to Success Business School, Jos, to further his education and presented the forged certificate.
“He applied for Higher National Diploma in Business Administration and was apprehended at the point of verification of the certificate before registration, “the prosecutor said.
Aminu denied committing the offence, while the Magistrate, Yahaya Mohammed, ordered his detention, and adjourned the matter until June 22, to enable the police carry out further investigation.
Yaba college of Technology, Lagos state (Yabatech) has teamed up with designers Taiwo and Kehinde of the Okunore twins fashion brand for training of students studying fashion design and fashion related courses in the institution.
To this end, the school signed a memorandum of understanding with the fashion firm as a way of empowering and encouraging young and budding fashion students in the school.
The institutions's rector, Dr. Margaret Kudi Ladipo expressed her pleasure at the development, stating that the partnership has further expanded the horizon of students in entrepreneurial education as students learn from experts outside the classroom thereby enhancing their skills.
Also speaking was the Dean, School of Arts, Design and Printing, Dr. Kunle Adeyemi who praised the initiative, describing it as a new day for fashion in Yabatech.

A 300 level student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State has been declared missing.
Mayowa Emmanuel Olamijulo, from the Department of Geophysics was said to have left his house on March 27 and has not been seen since then.
Mayowa who is a student leader in the faculty of science was said to have boarded a bus from Ibadan to Ago-Iwoye, after his father dropped him off at Iwo Road bus station. He was declared missing when he could not be reached hours after and his mobile phone was switched off.
Office of the Dean, Students' Affairs urged members of the public with any useful information on Mayowa's whereabouts to contact his father on 07031937092.

The third edition of the National Youth Games is set to hold at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria from September 7th to 17th. This would mark the varsity's second consecutive time of hosting the games.
According to the university's bulletin issued on Monday, the approval of the dates as well as venue by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development was as a result of the university’s successful hosting of the second edition last year.

Students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State have expressed their displeasure at the scrapping of seven courses by the Federal Government , as they took to the campus streets yesterday to protest against the policy.
The protest was embarked on by the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) and the affected courses include Banking and Finance, Accounting, Economics, Marketing, Entrepreneurial Studies, Business Administration and Industrial Relations.
President, Association of Management Science Students (AMSS) of the university, Mr.Uzoma Onuoha said that they were worried and wanted to know what the management was doing about the situation which he described as "disturbing".
“We can never be violent or engage in any act that would bring shame to the university as we continue to express our dissatisfaction with the policy...,” he said. “We appeal to you sir to ensure that something is done fast to restore the programmes..." he added, calling on the school's management to do something about their predicament.
Responding to the agrieved students, the dean of the college, Prof John Ihendinihu said that the college with the university management was on top of the situation and hoped to get positive response from relevant authorities.
Other institutions affected by the policy are Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUNAM) and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) OF 4.85, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state, graduated its overall best student Ikenna Henry Ozofor, who is from the Department of Chemical Engineering, under the Faculty of Engineering.
He also made a name for himself, in becoming the NO'1 student to emerge with the highest CGPA from the Faculty Of Engineering.
In his speech, he caught the mind of his audience when he said ''i was not expecting to be the best''.
Having been the best in his secondary school day, he got a scholarship from high profound companies like Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), ABC Transportation, Chevron Agbami JV, and Allied Energy, to study in the University because of his amazing performance in during his sophomore period in school.
He further said: “I don’t read for too long hours. My average reading period was four hours and I don’t think I can go beyond this. But, I consistently maximised the little time to understand what was necessary in courses I offered. My daily routine was fixed. I would go for lectures in the morning till evening. When I returned, I would eat and sleep for five hours. I would be up for four hours to study.”
He also spoke about the scholarship given to him by big companies,saying that it paved way for him financially, helping him get what he needed for his studies.
"My academic path..." he said, "is to God's Glory...". “There are no shortcuts and secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hardwork and learning from failure.”

With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.74 at the university’s 21st convocation held on March 22, Orefuwa expressed her heartfelt joy, revealing that she was so scared that the baby would deny her the opportunity of being a part of the convocation.
It was reported by the News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN), that the school graduated 36,540 students, 26 with first class and others with degrees diploma and doctorate certificates.
Orefuwa further said that she thanked God for the experience she had during her delivery and that she had wanted to know what the convocation felt like before putting to bed.
She told the News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) that her journey was one of sheeer determination,
She further said that it took her seven years before she could gain admission into the school,during that period, she started her career at the Institute of Chartered Account of Nigeria (ICAN) in 2007 and came out in flying colours.

A lecturer from the Abia State Polytechnic, Mr. Nkwachi Brown has allegedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
According to reports, Mr. Brown was kidnapped on Thursday, along Opobo road, Aba while on his way to a meeting.
Sources say that he was driving in a vehicle with a friend, when the alleged gunmen attacked them and took him away. The said abductors are yet to contact his family.

As part of efforts to help alleviate thefinancial burden on indigent students, the management of the Lagos State University (LASU), in partnership with the Students’ Union. has initiated a part-time working scheme for students.
According to the university Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Lanre Fagbohun, the aim of the scheme was to create platforms for students to make legitimate money, while studying. adding that the job scheme would also give students opportunities for skill acquisition that would prepare them for employment after their graduation.
The first phase of the job scheme, would allow students to be employed as workers in the school library. Students are equally expected to work for a few hours at various offices to earn wages that would be enough to sustain them through the session.
According to the school management, all interested students can forward their applications to the university librarian.
