The Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU), of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa, today,
Wednesday, August 24, 2016, suspended its four-months-old strike.
The Port Harcourt Zonal
Coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Beke Sese and
Chairman of Niger Delta University (NDU), ASUU branch, Dr Stanley Ogoun,
disclosed this at a Press Conference in Yenagoa, the state capital , today, Wednesday,
August 24, 2016.
Meanwhile Campusdelight can confirm that the decision to call
off the strike by ASUU is coming 48 hours after the Bayelsa state Governor,
Henry Seriake Dickson, ordered payment of two, out the total four months
salaries to the staff of the Niger Delta University, Amassoma.
It would be recalled that Mr. Dickson through a statement by his
Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, had on Monday, August 21, called
on ASUU (NDU branch), to reciprocate his gesture by ending the strike as soon
as possible, not to jeopardize the educational careers of thousands of Bayelsa
children and those from other parts of the country.
However, today, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),
of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa, reciprocated Mr. Dickson’s
gesture as it suspended its four-months-old strike.
