The Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Kogi state, is set to construct a 6000-bed capacity hostels for its students. The groundbreaking project will be achieved through partnership with private developers, said the Rector of the institution.
According to the Rector of the institution, Dr. Abubakar Dzukogi, the Federal Ministry of Education has been duly notified to seek its approval, noting that the project would be located in the institution’s complex.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he explained that out of 15000 students currently undergoing various courses in the institution, only about 3,000 were accommodated in the institution’s hostels, the rest which is about 12,000 live off campus and this impart negatively on their studies.
He assures that ones the project is completed, this problem will be largely solved.
“We are just waiting for the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education to commence immediately the execution of the project,” he said.
He however called for improved funding of the institution as some building on the campus are in a state of disrepair, administrative block including the office of the rector being one of them.
