Nigerian Student Made History, Emerges The First Black Female President of Harvard Law Review

A Nigerian student, Imelme Umana, has matched the record set in 1990 by former US President, Barack Obama, who was the first black male president of the Harvard Law Review, by emerging the first black woman president of Harvard Law Review.

Harvard Law Review was founded in 1887 by former Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, is wholly student-edited journal with the largest circulation of any law journal in the world

Umana who graduated from Harvard College in 2014 with an A.B. in African American Studies and Government, is the 131st president of the publication. She is a joint degree candidate with Harvard Law School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

She is “interested in the intersection between government and African studies by exploring how stereotypes of black women are reproduced and reinforced in America political discourse” in her Ph.D.
