OAU Disclaims Alleged Extremist Student Group
The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has detached itself from alleged extremist student group in the university.

While speaking to the press on Wednesday, the acting Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. Grace Akinola said that only one group is recognised as Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN)‎ on the campus, adding that the Muslim group alleged to be operating like extremist was not recognised and had been warned to stop their activities. She further explained that a disciplinary panel had been set up to look into the development.

The Chief Security officer (CSO) of the university, Mr Babatunde Oyatokun also spoke on the matter, debunking all rumours of Boko Haram operations in the university. He stated that the alleged extremist group, led by one AbdulRasheed Bakare was neither registered nor recognised by the school authorities, adding that the group had no logo or constitution.

The CSO also clarified that the university management was taking necessary action on the matter, saying that the group members were under surveillance.

The university's PRO, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju equally confirmed the postions of the  Dean and the CSO, stating that only the registered Muslim students' group was recognised and permitted to operate within the university.
