The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has today been released. Mr. Kanu who is facing charges of treasonable felony was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to trial Justice, Binta Nyako, her decision to release Kanu on bail was based on health grounds.
The bail requirements stated that Mr. Kanu must produce three sureties- a “highly respected and recognised jewish leader", "a highly placed person of Igbo extraction such as a Senator”, as well as “a highly respected person who is resident and owns landed property in Abuja”. Each of these sureties are to deposit N100million each.
However, Kanu’s co-defendants, Benjamin Madubugwu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and David Nwawuisi were denied bail by the court which has fixed July 11 and 12 to commence their trial.
Sequel to this, Daily Post reports that the IPOB leader has rejected the bail granted him and has allegedly vowed to remain in Kuje prisons with his co-accused persons pending when they ( his co-accused) are granted bail.
