The Nasarawa state government has revealed its plans to shut down private schools operating in the state without its approval.
The state's commissioner for education, Mr.Tijani Ahmed disclosed this today while speaking to the press in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the commissioner, some of the said schools were reportedly operating within inconducive environments including uncompleted buildings.
Mr. Tijani equally revealed that the names of the non-registered schools would soon be made public, adding that the affected schools were discovered after a census was conducted on them by the state government.
“...Proprietors of private schools should strictly adhere to the guidelines for the establishment and operation of such ventures as stipulated by the state government..." he said.
“...It is no longer going to be business-as-usual where some people will short-change government by not paying the charges due to it. We give all private schools up to April 30th to update their records and those operating illegally should come to the ministry for proper documentation and payment or face sanctions", he concluded.
Ahmed said that the ministry had constituted a taskforce to go round to enforce the directive.
