Enrique Retires as Barca Manager

Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique has announced his decision to not renew his contract at the end of the current season. He stated that he would be stepping down as the manager of the catalan club. His decision took many at the Camp Nou by surprise. He made the announcement on Thursday during a press conference. In his three years reign at the Catalan club, he won three trophies with the club.

The 46 year-old cited the daily grind of pressure as Barca Boss and that he needs time to rest. He made the announcement a day after thrashing sporting Gijon 6-1. He reportedly told the players about his decision just minutes before going public.

Barca President Maria Josep Bartomeu said, “In the summer he already told us he was considering this could be his final year”. There were rumours of fall out with key figures in the dressing room. Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets criticised his tactical set-up in the defeat to PSG a fortnight ago.

He also had a fall-out with Messi in January 2015, just six months into his job.
