National University of Singapore Named Asia’s Best, Twice in a Row

The university beat out China’s Peking University and Tsinghua University to retain top honours.

According to rankings released by Times Higher Education magazine on Thursday , the National University of Singapore (NUS) has been named Asia’s best University for the second year in a row.

The ranking compares 300 universities in 24 Asian countries and uses the same indicators as the magazine’s world university rankings, with an additional focus on publications and research and less emphasis on reputation.

NUS which  beat out China’s Peking University and Tsinghua University to retain top honours. ranked 24th in the world.

Based on statistics released last September, the said university educates more than 38,000 students across undergraduate and graduate studies.

According to a statement by  Times Higher Education Rankings editor, Phil Baty, “The university has demonstrated that Asian universities can legitimately challenge the traditional Western elites of the U.S. and the UK and are a role model for the entire continent".

NUS president and professor, Tan Chor Chuan, also added that the award was a strong recognition of Asian and global approach to education and research..
