About forty Nigerians have been deported home from Italy, following various drugs charges and immigration related offences. The deportees were said to have arrived at the Murtalla Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, last night.
According to the spokesman of the Lagos airport police command, Joseph Alabi, the deportees, all male were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) , the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the police. Also present were officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) .
The men were then profiled by immigration authorities while those without serious charges were allowed to depart to their various destinations.
This is not the first time the Italian Government has deported Nigerians. Within the past two months, a total of about 70 Nigerians have been sent home from the country.
