A set of 3,242 students have been matriculated by Gombe University (GSU) for the 2016/2017 academic season on Saturday.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Ibrahim Umar, while addressing the student urged them to take their studies very seriously. He advised that the fresh students should keep in mind that, out of about 9000 who applied to study in the school they were among the 3,242 who were able to make it. He stressed this should not be a reason to relent on their efforts, as the work is just getting started.
He explained the importance of studying hard in order to not just graduate but with good class of degree.
He strongly condemn drug abuse, as it will not be tolerated, because discipline is the watchword of the school.
He advised the student to shun examination malpractice, "Don't get involved in examination malpractice, it is better to fail and start over than to be caught in the act." he said.
According to the VC, GSU does not wants to produce mediocres but good leaders, "We want to produce responsible leaders of tomorrow, not mediocre." he added.
In his closing remarks, he urged the student to ensure that the environment is kept clean at all times, and avoid throwing of thrashes.
The students were matriculated into the faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Sciences, Medical Sciences, Phaemaceutical Science and School of Postgraduate studies.
